Team Bod Racing #21.
Racing was always going to be somewhere in Mark’s future, his uncle was a top racer with the Mitsui Racing Team and Mark himself was riding from the age of 4.
Initially though it was as a spanner-man that Mark earned his stripes progressing from club level, through British Superbikes and eventually into the World Endurance Championship there was even a stint in the murky world of ‘car pointing’ in the European F3000 Championship. But at the age of 43 Mark decided it was the time to see for himself what all the fuss was about, donned the famous (or infamous) orange bib and lined up for his first race at Darley Moor.
2016, his first season, saw Mark take 2nd place overall in the Pre-Injection 1300cc class and in 2017 he was once again the bridesmaid in the same class. 2018 saw Mark take the brave and eye-opening decision to build himself a CB500 and pitch headlong into the elbows out racing that is the CB500’s. Success quickly followed with wins at Mallory Park in the senior class, a string of podiums with No Limits Racing and a 3rd overall in the Darley Championship where he split his time developing and racing an FZ750 in the Classic 1300 Championship and having joined halfway through the season won every race he entered but was yet again left in 2nd place at the end of the year although this would have been a dominant overall win if the bike had been available all season.
A lack of funds for 2019 mean that the CB500 will be the only bike for Mark and he will be attempting a full season at Darley as well as with the East Midlands Racing Association (EMRA) and is also hoping for a couple of outings with No Limits Racing at Donington Park with the main aims of shedding the bridesmaid tag while having fast, safe, fun along the way.
Mark has been a consistent supporter throughout 2018 and we wish him every success for the coming season. If you want to get involved with Mark and his 2019 efforts then please get in touch with him on Facebook or around the paddock as I’m sure he would love to hear from you.
