My write up for Paul was almost complete when the news broke that he had signed for the front running Dafabet Devitt Racing Team for the 2019 season in a move that will surely see Paul at the very sharp end of the field.
The 26 year old from Magherafelt Northern Ireland Paul first began racing in 2005 and 3 short years later he finished 3rd in the British 125cc Championship. In 2009 at Donington Park Paul was sitting comfortably inside the points scoring position until a small mistake saw him finish 16th having been pipped to the last point in 15th by a certain Marc Marquez.
A few more years on the short circuits rubbing shoulders with the likes of Scott Redding and Johan Zarco then saw Paul take a few years out to regroup and come back as a Road Racer and in 2013 made his debut at the North West 200 And Ulster Grand Prix.
One of Paul’s biggest career highlights so far was a very impressive 131MPH lap and 4th place finish in the superbike race at the Ulster Grand Prix and in 2018 he also made his debut at the world famous Macau Grand Prix.
Now with the deal in place to be running with one of the most established teams in the paddock Paul will be riding Kawasaki machinery in the Superbike, Superstock, Supersport and Lightweight classes with the Isle of Man and Ulster Grand Prix the main focus while a debut at the Southern 100 is also in the diary.
Having signed up to the Supporters Club for the year (Follow the Facebook link for details) I am personally delighted that I will get a chance to capture Paul on camera as he is scheduled to be doing selected rounds of the British Superstock 1000 Championship and we are looking forward to catching up with him trackside.
