Steven Pawley & David Hammond

SPR – F2 Sidecar Racing Team

Having always been a huge fan of the ‘chairs’ it gives me a real buzz to welcome Steven and David into our ‘Friends’ page.

Team SPR in action at Darley Moor.

Racing a Shelbourne F2 sidecar powered by a GSXZ600 K7 engine the driver/passenger partnership is currently in its infancy having only come together in August 2018 and they have completed 5 events as a crew before technical issues saw the season cut short. Having already developed a good understanding on the chair they head into 2019 feeling confident of hitting the ground running as the chemistry grows between the pair.

Steven has been around sidecars for many years and was previously a passenger himself when he formed a team with his father before he decided to move into the drivers seat. As he begn to get to grips with the new role he was very suddenly struck down by a rare form of leukemia and racing was put on hold, thankfully the dreadful disease was successfully beaten and when given the all clear Steven was once again back on the sidecar. Now with an eager and regular passenger onboard the season can’t come soon enough.

A busy year lies ahead for Steven & David as they gain more experience of some of the bigger circuits.

David is a complete newcomer to the sport but finally managed to rid himself of the orange novice bib at Oulton Park in October. A keen biker on the road from an early age, it was only when he left the Royal Navy that he sold the road bike and took to the track. That particular adventure was curtailed by constant mechanical woes with his track bike meaning a constant strain on the purse strings and so the bike went and David decided to fulfil a lifelong ambition of being a sidecar passenger.

In and around the paddock you will find the team has a real family feel to it with Steve’s partner & parents and David’s partner all usually in attendance (David’s partner is also team photographer so I will be looking for some advice along the way!) and everyone always happy to chat with fans and supporters of the sidecar community so if you see the distinctive purple and white machine feel free to stop and say hello.

As with all our friends sponsors are always in demand so if you like the idea of getting involved in sidecar racing then contact Steven or David to see what’s on offer. You can also follow the teams antics via their Facebook page – SPR – F2 Sidecar Racing Team.
